  4.               OVERCOME POOR CREDIT WITH A SECURED CREDIT CARD

  6.                You can create good credit to offset the poor
  7.           credit you might have amassed. Just establish new
  8.           credit sources as quickly as you can and keep all
  9.           payments up to date. In other words, bury the bad
  10.           payments among the good ones. 
  11.                The easiest way to establish or re-establish your
  12.           credit is through a secured MasterCard or VISA.
  13.           "Secured" means that you have made a deposit equal to
  14.           the amount of credit you want, from $300 to $3,000. 
  15.                With some banks or agencies, your deposit is put
  16.           into an interest-earning CD. There is usually a fee of
  17.           about $30 for getting you the credit approval and
  18.           handling the transaction.  After you have made regular,
  19.           timely payments for six months or so, the security
  20.           requirement is dropped, and your deposit is returned to
  21.           you. 
  22.                After you have made payments, have your account
  23.           reverified and your credit file updated by the credit
  24.           bureau. 
  25.                There are now a large number of banks offering
  26.           such plans, and even Western Union has just entered the
  27.           field.  A complete directory of secured credit card
  28.           plans is published by Eden Press, P. O. Box 8410,
  29.           Fountain Valley CA 92728.  Ask them for a free catalog
  30.           to get the price of the current edition, as the book is
  31.           updated frequently.
